DIY Travel Medical Emergency Kit

What I Pack in My Medical Kit for Every Trip

I know we all love to dream about all the ways our travels will be fabulous and go perfectly according to plan. But sadly that’s not always reality…

And while it’s totally not sexy to think about tummy troubles while you’re frolicking around France or sipping a sundowner in South Africa…let me tell you why it's absolutely essential to always travel with your own emergency medical kit.

Picture this: you're out there exploring and living your best life, when suddenly, BAM you feel an uncomfortable rumble in your tummy… Or perhaps you’re the latest delicacy on the mosquito buffet… Or maybe you get a little motion sick when you're winding your way through the twisty turny roads of the Amalfi Coast…

Unfortunately, I think we’ve all been there at one point or another in our lives, and when it happens when you’re traveling halfway around the world…YIKES.

That’s why I always pack my version of a “mini-emergency” medical kit packed with all the essentials I need “just in case”. I can’t count how many times mine has saved my booty when I'm on the go. I now have mine permanently packed in an easy-to-access pouch, ready to go so that when it’s time to pack for a new trip I throw it in my bag and I just replenish my supply when needed.

It's like a safety blanket, giving you peace of mind knowing you're prepared for whatever curveballs travel throws your way.

Here’s My List:

Acidil

If you buy only one thing from this list make it be this. I have been using these all natural pills since I was in middle school and had HORRIBLE stomach aches. Now I take them everywhere with me and when my stomach starts to feel upset I pop two of these under my tongue & it’s amazing how quick they work to settle your tummy.!

Nux Vomica

These are preventative pills for stomach issues, hangover relief, or anytime you just feel "off". I usually take these immediately after a heavy or indulgent meal - game changer and by the same company that makes Acidil.

Imodium

When trying new foods and restaurants abroad, these can be a LIFESAVER!

Pepto Bismal Tablets

I often use these as a preventative measure and take them before meals to soothe my stomach.

Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen

I always travel with some kind of pain reliever to help with little aches and pains, especially if I’m going to doing a lot of walking. Just make sure you do not bring anything with codeine in it, as it's illegal in some countries [a quick google search will help you]

Charcoal Supplements

Used to stabilize more severe stomach pain - I prefer these liquid pouches from a supplement company that I love because they are easy to pack without taking up much space.

Oscillococcinum

A preventative upper respiratory remedy, I take these one week before I travel and the day of travel as an immune boost. I also like this throat spray & keep it in my carry on to spray just before I get on the flight.

Cold Calm & Throat Calm

I carry both of these with me just in case I start feeling cold/flu like symptoms while I’m traveling to try to get ahead of it and minimize the symptoms. The link below takes you to Cold Calm - here’s a link to the Throat Calm version.

Throat Lozenges

You might find yourself coughing more than usual due to the dryness on a plane or in the destination you’re visiting. These are my favorite and I make sure to put a handful in my carry on bag.

Band Aids

This may seem like something you don’t need to bring, but having band-aids on hand when you have a blister or cut on your foot can be a life saver!

Neosporin

Again, having this may feel like overkill but any time you get a cut or blister, keeping it clean will not only reduce infection, but help it heal a little faster so that it doesn’t impact your travels.

Mosquito Repellent

Always good to have this on hand & I like these little wipes because they fit easily in my purse. Also I’ve used these patches in India and they worked wonders!

Motion Sickness Remedy

Traveling in certain destinations might mean driving along bumpy and winding roads, it’s always good to be prepared if you struggle with motion sickness.

Chapstick

Needs no explanation - chapstick is always a must! Here’s a link to some of my favorites.

Tampons & Feminine Products

In some countries, feminine products can be hard to come by! Even if you don’t think you need it - have some on hand just in case!

Hand Sanitizer

An absolute must & this is my favorite brand.

Travel Tissues

Just in case the country you are visiting doesn’t typically stock toilet paper in public restrooms, have some travel tissues on hand where ever you go.

After Sun or Aloe Vera Gel

If you are traveling to a sunny destination, the possibility for sunburn is real and often times buying it at the beach is SUPER expensive.

A Pouch to Keep it All

I don’t have the exact link to the kit that I use but if I was to buy a new pouch to put all my meds in, this would be it [maybe don’t get the one that says drugs tho lol]. This mini pouch is cute too for your carry on.

Okay, so I know this list is LONG but here’s the thing, you get to customize your “mini-emergency” kit to whatever works best for you! If you have other medications or things you think you might need - add those to this list. You can easily snag all these items on Amazon and keep your pouch packed and in your luggage so that it’s ready to go and you don’t need to think too much about it when it comes time for your next trip.
